Conference registration cancellations must be received in writing on or before March 8, 2019 to receive a full refund minus a $35.00 administration fee. No refunds will be issued for cancellations received after March 8.

Our Line-Up of Distinguished Speakers

Mahendra Bhati, MD
Dr. Bhati is a board-certified neuropsychiatrist with expertise in psychiatric diagnosis, psychopharmacology, and neuromodulation.  He obtained a medical degree from Louisiana State University and completed residency at the University of Pennsylvania.  He is currently a Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Neurosurgery at Stanford University where he specializes in treatment-resistant psychiatric disorders using a combination of treatment modalities.  He serves as the Section Chief of Interventional Psychiatry at Stanford where he also teaches a resident course in advanced psychopharmacology.  Dr. Bhati is interested in developing novel combinations of brain stimulation with pharmacological interventions to better treat psychiatric disorders. 

 

Renée Binder, M.D.
Dr. Binder is a distinguished professor of psychiatry, founding director of the Psychiatry and Law Program and Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship, and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the University of California San Francisco School of Medicine (UCSF). Dr. Binder has served as President of the Northern California Psychiatric Association and the California Psychiatric Association. 




Anna Glezer, MD
Dr. Glezer began her training at Harvard and then transitioned to the University of California, San Francisco, where she has been a practicing physician on faculty with joint appointments in the Department of Psychiatry and Department of Obstetrics/Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences. She is board certified in adult psychiatry, a member of the American Psychiatric Association, and on the executive council of the Northern California Psychiatric Society and the American Academy of Psychiatry and Law.




John Greene, MD
Dr. Greene is board certified in both General and Forensic Psychiatry. He began practicing in the San Francisco Bay 
Area in 1997. He became a member of Stanford University’s Adjunct Clinical Faculty in 2005, and currently teaches topics on psychiatry and the law to the residents in the Departmentof Psychiatry at Stanford. With extensive training and expertise, Dr. Greene is regularly relied upon to provide expert testimony in civil and criminal cases regarding mental illness.



Randall Hagar, CPA Director of GA
Randall Hagar is the Director of Government Affairs for the California Psychiatric Association (CPA). His primary duty is as a legislative advocate for the CPA and he also assists members of the Association in the development of policy for the Association on legislative, state budget, judicial and regulatory matters advocated by the Association, and staffs a number of CPA committees.





Thomas R. lnsel, M.D.
Dr. Insel is a psychiatrist and neuroscientist, is a co-founder and President of Mindstrong Health. From 2002-2015, Dr. Insel served as Director of the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), the component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) committed to research on mental disorders. Dr. Insel is a member of the National Academy of Medicine and has received numerous national and international awards including honorary degrees in the U.S. and Europe




Dilip V. Jeste, M.D.
Dr. Jeste is Senior Associate Dean for Healthy Aging and Senior Care, Estelle and Edgar Levi Memorial Chair in Aging, Director of Stein Institute for Research on Aging, and Co-Director of the IBM-UCSD Center on Artificial Intelligence for Healthy Living. He completed psychiatry residency at Cornell, Neurology residency at George Washington University, and research fellowship at the NIMH.





Ricardo S. Juarez, MS

Ricardo is the Director of District Branch and International Relations for the American Psychiatric Association (APA) and responsible for facilitating communications and initiatives between the APA and its District Branches, State Associations and International Allied Organizations. He has been with the APA for over 12 years and has a fundamental knowledge and understanding of APA programs, policies and processes. Ricardo received an M.S. degree from George Mason University School of Public Policy, a B.A. and B.S. from Virginia Tech with concentrations in psychology, humanities, science, and technology, and completed a certificate program at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies.

 

 

DanielLevy, PhD 

Dr. Levy is a clinical psychologist and director of the Integrated Behavioral Health service at San Mateo Medical Center, where she leads clinical operations, manages training programs, and provides services to underserved adult populations. She specializes in short-term, culturally-sensitive cognitive and behavioral therapies, and is a certified trainer in TEAM-CBT, an innovative framework for delivering evidence-based psychological care.



Margaret May, MD
Dr. May completed her medical training at the Yale School of Medicine and graduated from Stanford's adult psychiatry residency in 2015.  Since then she has practiced emergency and consult-liaison psychiatry at the Palo Alto VA Health Care System and continues to teach and supervise residents and medical students as an affiliate faculty member at Stanford.  



 

Robert McCarron, DO
Dr. McCarron completed a dual residency in internal medicine and psychiatry at Rush University and received board certified in psychiatry, psychosomatic medicine and internal medicine. He serves at the UCI Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior as Vice Chair of Education and Integrated Care, as well as Residency Program Director, is the Co-director for the UC Davis Train New Trainers (TNT) Primary Care Psychiatry (PCP) Fellowship and is the current California Psychiatric Association (CPA) President. Dr. McCarron has received recognition for his national leadership and expertise in cross disciplinary medical / psychiatric integrated education from the UC Davis School of Medicine Vice Chancellor; the American College of Physicians; the Association of Medicine and Psychiatry; and the American Psychiatric Association and the National Alliance on Mental Illness.



Joseph Obegi, PsyD
Dr. Obegi is a Senior Psychologist with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation where he coordinates suicide prevention programming at California State Prison, Solano. In the community, he provides training and consultation in topics related to suicide and has part-time practice working with adults.  






Raymond Reyes, MD
Dr. Reyes received his degree from the University of the East, in the Philippines, Wright State University, Department of Psychiatry, the United States Airforce for 11 years, and is currently at the California Medical Facility, state prison in Vacaville, California. He currently serves on the NCPS Council in the role of APA Assembly Representative and Parliamentarian and participates on Budget & Finance and Ethics Committees.




Randall Weingarten, MD
Dr. Weingarten received his education from Dartmouth College, BA in 1964; Tufts Medical School, MD in 1968; completed his Medical Internship at Michael Reese Hospital from 1968-1969; his Stanford Residency from 1969-1972. He was the Adjunct Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Stanford Dept. of Psychiatry in 1992 and has had a Private Practice of Psychiatry from 1982-Present. Dr. Weingarten received the Irma Bland Award for sustained contribution to Resident education from the APA in 2017.



Nolan Williams, MD
Dr. Williams is an Assistant Professor within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and the Director of the Stanford Brain Stimulation Lab. Dr. Williams has a broad background in neuropsychiatry, completing residencies in both neurology and psychiatry. In addition, he has specific training and clinical expertise in the development of brain stimulation methodologies under Mark George, MD. He has received several merit-based travel awards to attend and present at the annual meetings for American College of Neuropharmacology, Society of Biological Psychiatry, the American Academy of Neurology and the American Neuropsychiatric Association.
