Our Line-Up of Distinguished Speakers

Mahendra Bhati, MD
Dr. Bhati is a board-certified neuropsychiatrist with expertise in psychiatric diagnosis, psychopharmacology, and neuromodulation.  He obtained a medical degree from Louisiana State University and completed residency at the University of Pennsylvania.  He is currently a Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Neurosurgery at Stanford University where he specializes in treatment-resistant psychiatric disorders using a combination of treatment modalities.  He serves as the Section Chief of Interventional Psychiatry at Stanford where he also teaches a resident course in advanced psychopharmacology.  Dr. Bhati is interested in developing novel combinations of brain stimulation with pharmacological interventions to better treat psychiatric disorders. 

 

Renée Binder, M.D.
Dr. Binder is a distinguished professor of psychiatry, founding director of the Psychiatry and Law Program and Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship, and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the University of California San Francisco School of Medicine (UCSF). Dr. Binder has served as President of the Northern California Psychiatric Association and the California Psychiatric Association. 




Anna Glezer, MD
Dr. Glezer began her training at Harvard and then transitioned to the University of California, San Francisco, where she has been a practicing physician on faculty with joint appointments in the Department of Psychiatry and Department of Obstetrics/Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences. She is board certified in adult psychiatry, a member of the American Psychiatric Association, and on the executive council of the Northern California Psychiatric Society and the American Academy of Psychiatry and Law.



John Greene, MD
Dr. Greene is board certified in both General and Forensic Psychiatry. He began practicing in the San Francisco Bay Area in 1997. He became a member of Stanford University’s Adjunct Clinical Faculty in 2005, and currently teaches topics on psychiatry and the law to the residents in the Departmentof Psychiatry at Stanford. With extensive training and expertise, Dr. Greene is regularly relied upon to provide expert testimony in civil and criminal cases regarding mental illness.



Randall Hagar, CPA Director of GA
Randall Hagar is the Director of Government Affairs for the California Psychiatric Association (CPA). His primary duty is as a legislative advocate for the CPA and he also assists members of the Association in the development of policy for the Association on legislative, state budget, judicial and regulatory matters advocated by the Association, and staffs a number of CPA committees.




Thomas R. lnsel, M.D.
Dr. Insel is a psychiatrist and neuroscientist, is a co-founder and President of Mindstrong Health. From 2002-2015, Dr. Insel served as Director of the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), the component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) committed to research on mental disorders. Dr. Insel is a member of the National Academy of Medicine and has received numerous national and international awards including honorary degrees in the U.S. and Europe



Dilip V. Jeste, M.D.
Dr. Jeste is Senior Associate Dean for Healthy Aging and Senior Care, Estelle and Edgar Levi Memorial Chair in Aging, Director of Stein Institute for Research on Aging, and Co-Director of the IBM-UCSD Center on Artificial Intelligence for Healthy Living. He completed psychiatry residency at Cornell, Neurology residency at George Washington University, and research fellowship at the NIMH.




Ricardo S. Juarez, MS

Ricardo is the Director of District Branch and International Relations for the American Psychiatric Association (APA) and responsible for facilitating communications and initiatives between the APA and its District Branches, State Associations and International Allied Organizations. He has been with the APA for over 12 years and has a fundamental knowledge and understanding of APA programs, policies and processes. Ricardo received an M.S. degree from George Mason University School of Public Policy, a B.A. and B.S. from Virginia Tech with concentrations in psychology, humanities, science, and technology, and completed a certificate program at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies.
