Dr. Cruz was born and raised on the island of Kauai in the state of Hawaii. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Dartmouth College, his post-baccalaureate pre-medical certificate from Columbia University and his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine. He completed his adult psychiatry residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and his child psychiatry fellowship at The Johns Hopkins Hospital where he served as chief resident in his final year.
Dr. Cruz works at Bay Psychiatric Associates in Berkeley, CA. He sees children, adolescents, and adults and treats a variety of psychiatric disorders that include: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, disruptive and impulse-control disorders, bipolar disorders, and psychotic disorders.
In treating patients, he utilizes various psychotherapeutic modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, parent management training, supportive psychotherapy, psychodynamic regression therapy, and when indicated, medication.
