American Psychiatric Association Calls on Governor Deal to Veto Georgia House Bill 757
ARLINGTON, Va. – The American Psychiatric Association (APA) sent a letter to Georgia Governor Nathan Deal today, urging him to veto House Bill 757.
The letter states that:
“APA has long opposed discrimination against individuals in the LGBTQ community, whether that discrimination occurs in accessing health care services, education, employment, government services, housing, military service or spousal rights. All forms of discrimination, including societal, religious or family stigma, may adversely affect the mental health of individuals and necessitate intervention.”
The APA has also joined Georgia Prospers, a coalition of more than 500 businesses opposed to HB 757.
The American Psychiatric Association is a national medical specialty society whose more than 36,000 physician members specialize in the diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and research of mental illnesses, including substance use disorders.
