The Wharf Announces First Office Tenant: American Psychiatric Association Leases

WASHINGTON, D.C. (July 16, 2015) – Hoffman-Madison Waterfront, the master developer of the world-class mixed-use waterfront community The Wharf, today announced the American Psychiatric Association (APA), the world’s largest psychiatric organization, will occupy 63,000 square feet of Class A office space at 800 Maine Avenue. Mayor Muriel E. Bowser made the announcement at today’s “bottoming out” event at The Wharf. The APA, currently at 1000 Wilson Boulevard in Arlington, Va., signed a 10-year lease and is expected to take occupancy between November 1, 2017 and January 1, 2018. The APA was originally headquartered in DC, prior to their move to Virginia.

The American Psychiatric Association is the world’s largest psychiatric organization and the oldest national medical society in the United States. The APA represents more than 36,000 psychiatrists in the U.S. and around the world. The association has more than 200 employees at its Arlington, Va., headquarters. The move to the Wharf represents a return to the District for the APA, which used to maintain its headquarters on K Street.
