SMI Adviser’s “My Mental Health Crisis Plan” App Wins 2021 MobileWebAward

WASHINGTON, D.C., Dec. 14, 2021 – The My Mental Health Crisis Plan app, which allows individuals who have serious mental illness to create a psychiatric advance directive that guides their treatment during a mental health crisis, recently was named Best Health Care Mobile Application in the 2021 MobileWebAwards.

The app was developed by SMI Adviser, an initiative funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and administered by the American Psychiatric Association (APA). SMI Adviser’s mission is to advance the use of a person-centered approach to care that ensures people who have serious mental illness find the treatment and support they need.

“This app is such an important tool for patients and doctors alike,” said APA CEO and Medical Director Saul Levin, M.D., M.P.A. “Allowing patients to take an active role in their care through a psychiatric advance directive that is easily accessible on their phones can be a big help if they encounter a mental health crisis. SMI Adviser and SAMHSA deserve kudos for using mobile technology to develop a workable solution for those who need it.”

“My Mental Health Crisis Plan is now in use by thousands of people around the country,” said SMI Adviser Director Amy Cohen, Ph.D. “Since its debut we’re pleased to see its usage on the uptick and appreciate this honor as we continue to spread the word about this free, important resource.”

The MobileWebAwards, which are administered by the Web Marketing Association, are the first and only industry-based advertising award competition dedicated exclusively to responsive mobile web and application development.
