Media Encouraged to Attend APA Annual Meeting in New Orleans

WHAT: The American Psychiatric Association’s 2022 Annual Meeting features nationally recognized experts in psychiatry and mental health policy, research, and clinical practice. The meeting’s theme is Social Determinants of Mental Health and will feature more than 300 educational sessions and specialized tracks, including addiction psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry, forensic psychiatry, geriatric psychiatry, and more. There will also be a new Clinical Updates Track, and a Research Track from the National Institute on Drug Abuse with sessions from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, as well as a special Technology Track.

Media who attend the meeting in-person will have first access to APA’s yearly installment of the Healthy Minds poll; an embargoed study from the American Journal of Psychiatry; on-the-record talks with APA leadership, policymakers, and other experts in mental health; a new research briefing; and more. Among the top speakers are APA President Vivian Pender, M.D., APA CEO and Medical Director Saul Levin, M.D., M.P.A., and APA President-Elect Rebecca Brendel, M.D., J.D.

An online event, June 7-10, will feature access to more than 100 select recorded sessions from the in-person version and the three plenaries, as well as posters.

WHERE: New Orleans, LA, Ernest N. Morial Convention Center

TO REGISTER: Credentialed media can register through online advanced registration for journalists. The Onsite Meeting Press Room at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center will be open Saturday through Tuesday, May 21-24, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Wednesday, May 25, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Daily press briefings will be held in the Press Room Saturday through Tuesday at 9 a.m.

HEALTH AND SAFETY: All APA staff and in-person Annual Meeting attendees, including press, and exhibitors must be fully vaccinated and follow health and safety guidelines during all indoor activities at APA’s 2022 Annual Meeting.
