Important Updates on Medical Debt Reporting

Dr. Ketetha Steinhorn

California Medical Association (CMA) released a fact sheet, SB 1061: Medical Debt Reporting that alerts practitioners of new required language about medical debt reporting in patient-physician contracts that went into effect July 1 of this year. In January, SB 1061, stated that no physicians could report patient medical debt to consumer credit agencies and that the consequences of doing so are that the debt would be deemed unenforceable and void. Read the fact sheet linked below to see the new required language required on all contracts to communicate these new patient rights.
